About F&K

At Field & Kitchen, we’re cooking up a healthier, more localized and connected community.

We exist to make healthy, local food more accessible and to help the folks growing and making that food thrive. By offering affordable access to shared kitchen space, cold storage, and retail opportunities, we help local farmers and food entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses—and we help our neighbors fill their plates with fresh, seasonal foods.

When small producers have a place to wash, chop, store, and sell their bounty, everyone eats better. That’s why we’re cultivating a local food hub where people, ideas, and healthy food can flourish side-by-side.

A kitchen by farmers for farmers, farm workers, and food workers.

For years, farmers and food system dreamers—like local legends Joe and Linda Brittain—had envisioned a shared processing kitchen to help small farms thrive. That vision took root in the Henderson County Comprehensive Plan, which highlighted a community kitchen as the key to increasing healthy food access and farm viability.

In 2025, with momentum from that vision and decades of grassroots food justice work, we organized. Farmers needed a place to wash, chop, preserve, and package their bounty. Neighbors needed access to fresh, culturally-relevant meals. And our community needed spaces for collaboration, creativity, and mutual aid.

Our founding group includes growers, chefs, organizers and nutritionists, all committed to building infrastructure which supports the land, labor, and love that goes into our local food system. We were especially inspired by the disaster of Hurricane Helene, which made it obvious how fragile our food systems can be—and how powerful community resilience efforts are in response.

Make food your business.
